Sheet Music Digital Lesson #24 - Dotted Quarter Notes
     

 

We are now going to learn another new note called a

DOTTED QUARTER NOTE

Below is a picture of a dotted quarter note.

The dot after the note means you increase the value by one-half,
just like the dotted half note!

Therefore a dotted quarter note is equal to:
the value of a quarter note (1) plus the value of an eight note (1/2) which is
1 and 1/2 beats.

Play the song below while counting the time values. Notice that the dotted quarter note receives one and a half beats.
