If you find any of these songs useful, please consider becoming a member of this site. I am happy and proud to be a member and it has been a great investment that has reaped huge dividends. I have gotten a lot more out of this site than I could ever hope to put in and I am genuinely grateful.
I am a semi-retired Folksinger, retired Army Bandsman, currently teaching Guitar Ensemble, String Ensembles, Concert Choir, and Recorder Ensemble, grades 3 - 8. Next time I retire though, I am going right back into folk singing. (It keeps me humble)
Songs are like children. They have to get out on their own and find their own identity. I started the process by writing them, but you complete the process by learning them, passing them down to young minds, and keeping them alive. I sincerely hope that one or two of my little songs will live on past the time when anyone will know I actually wrote them. It is the sweetest form of immortality I could possibly think of. You can find free MP3s of my folk songs on Soundclick.com
here.
Leave me a message if you drop by. I would love to know what you think of my primitive efforts. I will also be mentioning that my songs will be written down here, so don't get stuck in a loop. I have had to depend on people who are wiser than me in the ways of technology all of my life. It doesn't bother me, but I am grateful that they are so gracious as well as generous. If you need any of these in a different format, give me a shout and if I am not in the middle of concert season, I will be glad to consider your request.

>>>We Went over 70,000 downloads, so the next goal is to get to 100,000. (Maybe even by the end of the year? < hope, hope >) When I was first invited to this webpage, I never thought it was possible, but now I have to admit that I am genuinely hopeful.
>>>Three songs have gone over 1,000 downloads now. I can't wait to find material that is at least as useful. Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.
>>>Finally got the Sol-Feg files uploaded. I would love to get feedback on these.
I would love to hear if something you found on this page convinced you to become a member. I don't get anything for it and I'm not looking for bragging rights. I would just like to know if this page is helping out Mike in any way. I don't want his generosity to me, to become a burden for this site. If something else was a deciding factor, be sure and let Mr. Daly know about that as well. If there is anything that any one of us can do to keep this online, I'm sure we can find a way to get it done. Oh, and if you actually read down this far, thank you bunches. My students are used to me but I may be a bit overwhelming to the general public.

Product Number: 1012000486 Series: Guitar Solo Pages: 1
Description: This guitar solo (optional duet) was requested by a student, and later ended up as an ensemble piece as well. It is all in first and second position and most of the basses are open strings.
Product Number: 1012000395 Series: Guitar Ensemble Pages: 2
Description: This piece is relatively easy to play and seems to get students all excited. They like to play this over and over again, faster and faster!
Product Number: 1012004094 Series: Guitar Ensemble Pages: 3
Description: This is a first year guitar ensemble piece I put together for our Winter Concert. I just wrote it, and have only played it here at the house. If you have any suggestions for improvements let me know.
Product Number: 1012004163 Series: Guitar Educational Pages: 1
Description: These are closed scales for guitar. "Closed scales" simply means that there are no open notes, or fingered notes. These are also movable scales, meaning that you can play the came fingering from the second fret, up as high as you can practically get your hand around the fretboard.
Product Number: 1012004181 Series: Guitar Solo Pages: 2
Description: I wrote this all over again because I wanted a chance to play with it, and one of my ensembles requested it. This is slightly more complicated than the first arrangement, although it does have shorthand notation. (since I am using it with some very dedicated first year guitarists) I am curious as to which one is going to end up being more popular.
Product Number: 1012004058 Series: Guitar Ensemble Pages: 2
Description: This is just a fun little piece I put together so we would have something to play one day. Hope you enjoy it.
Product Number: 1012000376 Series: Guitar Educational Pages: 1
Description: This is a page where I list all of the fingerings for my guitar shorthand notation system. It is remarkably simple and I'm surprised that it has caught on so well. Feel free to use it in whatever way suits you the best, and if you find ways to improve on it, please let me know. The method is what matters after all. I have another version that simply lists the string name on top and the fingering on the bottom. It is confusing for some students, but some learners (especially some with dyslexia) seem to prefer it because they only have to deal with one actual number at a time.
Description: This is a way to mark any recorder part so that the students know what fingers to use to play that note. We always say the note name first, followed by the fingering. We assume the thumb is down unless we lift it on purpose, so B is 1, A is 2, and G is 3. F is 3 slash 1 Oh (for open) 3, E is 3 slash 2, D is 3 slash 3, and C is 3 slash 4. High C is oh 2, High D is double oh 2 (for the open thumb hole) and so on. This makes it easy and fast to talk about fingerings and we get back to the music faster. The crucial thing is to always say the note name first. The fingers learn where to go long before the eyes recognize the notation, but it all comes together if your priorities are straight.
Product Number: 1012000435 Series: String Method Pages: 1
Description: This best part about this system is that it makes it easy to talk to each other in class. I have students who memorize everyone's fingerings just because it is so easy for them. It is a little bit unsettling to have a first year student telling a Cello player that his fingering for an A Sharp is 1 down on the A string, but it is even more unsettling for the cello player. We always say the note name first, followed by the string number, and then the finger - followed by the modifier (up or down - high or low) if needed. The page for the String Basses is now done so let me know if anything looks strange, thanks.
Description: This is a nice little first or second year guitar solo. (or optional duet) It is all in first position and there should be no surprises. Remember that Silent Night was originally written when the church organ broke down just before the Christmas service and they couldn't get a repair person up the mountain in time. So, if your mighty Wurlitzer gets a hiccup, pull out this simple arrangement and save your candlelight service.
Product Number: 1012000558 Series: Guitar Ensemble Pages: 4
Description: Silent Night, all in first position for beginning to intermediate guitar ensemble. This piece is published with and without shorthand notation. This is a two page chart, but I usually put the shorthand notation on the back since four to five days can go by without seeing my students on long weekends. If they have the fingering and notes t home, it removes another objection to practicing!
Product Number: 1012004144 Series: Guitar Solo Pages: 2
Description: This is a great song to learn because once you do, you automatically know two songs! This is a first to second year solo with and without shorthand notation. It moves between first and second position and the melody moves from top to bottom. I love doing that myself and I think it adds a little mystery to the part.
Description: No score (yet anyway) just three mix and match parts for whatever instruments you have and have to balance a section out with. We had a lot of fun with it and I may do more work on this if there is any interest.
Product Number: 1012000506 Series: Lead Sheet Pages: 1
Description: I have an Aunt who once remarked that no one had ever written a song about her, so I did. She never told me if she liked it either!
Product Number: 1012000526 Series: Guitar Ensemble Pages: 1
Description: Seasonal Guitar Ensemble arrangement, all in first position. With and without shorthand notation.
Product Number: 1012004279 Series: Guitar Ensemble Pages: 4
Description: Arrangement of a traditional Folk Dance Tune with three parts for Guitar Ensemble, with and without shorthand notation. Hope you enjoy it.
Product Number: 1012004257 Series: Guitar Solo Pages: 2
Description: I am a Big Fan of David Wilcox. His music is spiritual without being religious or preachy and he believes there is at least one good song in every guitar. This particular song is by Johann Sebastien Bach, but the first time it spoke to me, it was tagged to a song called Burgundy Heart Shaped Medallion. Now I hear it all over the place of course, and probably did before as well. I guess Mr. Wilcox just taught me how to listen for it!
Product Number: 1012000399 Series: Guitar Ensemble Pages: 1
Description: Intermediate Guitar ensemble piece that offers a less serious approach. Every once in awhile " Ya Gots Ta Boogie Woogie!"
Product Number: 1012004057 Series: Guitar Ensemble Pages: 2
Description: This came out of a conversation I had with my mother about the way we used to call the large icicles that hung off the eaves of the house, Snow Chimes. When I was young, she argued that they didn't really make a noise and I replied "They do when they fall!"
Product Number: 1012000341 Series: Guitar Ensemble Pages: 2
Description: This is a fingerstyle arrangement for guitar trio or ensemble. I always need a lot of material for Winter Concerts. We were talking about what it would sound like if we could hear snowflakes fall. I thought about it some more when I went home, and came back the next day with this little song. hope you enjoy it as much as we do. If you want to play it for a spring concert, I suppose you could rename it to "Cherry Blossoms Fall" or "Dandelion Parachutes!" (We used to love to blow on the dandelions when they went to seed. The seeds looked like little parachutes when they drifted off. Dad used to get quite impatient with us. I never really understood why he Wouldn't want thousands more dandelions, but apparently he did not appreciate them the way we did!

Product Number: 1012000364 Series: Lead Sheet Pages: 1
Description: This started out as a beginning Recorder song. It is also on my "Chimes of Big Ben" page for recorders. My students kept asking me what the words were, and would not believe me when I told them there weren't any. So, I had to make some up. I literally picked up my guitar and sang this to them in class (very haltingly, I assure you) and managed to remember most of it when I wrote it down afterwards. Verse two and three were added on and now there is one more extremely silly song in the world, thanks to the Recorder Ensembles of the Eastwood Knolls Dragons! (The very best and fiercest Dragons there are of course)
Description: I had this recorder player who wouldn't take the class seriously. One day he came in and asked me for some music. I told him I would get him some as soon as I could and he made a really sarcastic comment. So, I asked him what the problem was. He said, "That's what everybody tells me and then they never do anything." I told him to sit down and I pulled Music Printer Plus up on my computer. "What songs do you want?" I asked. He didn't really know, so I asked him if he knew Christmas is Coming and he said yes. Then I put on "Oh Christmas Tree" and "The Dreidel Song." I handed him the page and asked him if this was enough for now. I wish I could tell you that his whole attitude changed and we became best friends, but it didn't. We got through the year though and he still drops in to say hi and ask me if I remember him though. I guess that's good enough.
Product Number: 1012000837 Series: Guitar Ensemble Pages: 2
Description: We have Barn Swallows that return to our porch every year and have babies. I usually have to put one or two of them back in the nest every year and the parents have been very patient with me. This is a tune I found myself humming when I was climbing the ladder with the extremely sassy baby bird. It seemed to quiet the baby bird so it might work for you as well.
Product Number: 1012000821 Series: Guitar Ensemble Pages: 6
Description: This is an intermediate level Guitar Ensemble piece in 6/8 time (except for the last line!) in the key of A Minor. It is a Traditional Blues Classic and should be well worth your time for your students to dig into and play. The rhythms are not dumbed down and some initial counting and clapping may be in order. There is an optional Bass Part and the piece is offered with and without shorthand notation (although most players who attempt this piece should not need shorthand notation by this time.)
Product Number: 1013000014 Series: String Ensemble Pages: 8
Description: This is a mix and match version of the Start Spangled Banner in the key of G. There is a score but there is no shorthand notation. I also took the Violin 1 and 2 part up an octave for the advanced players, but included a low part for those who are still more comfortable in first position. Let me know how it works out for you. We are going to use it so the Strings, chorus and choir can perform together at the end of the Spring Concert! Remember, if everyone performs together at the end of the concert, everyone pretty much has to stay there for the whole thing. Very good for students self esteem.
Product Number: 1012000391 Series: Guitar Ensemble Pages: 1
Description: Ensemble piece for late beginning to intermediate guitars. Tickles the ears a little and sounds a lot harder than it really is.
Product Number: 1012000559 Series: Guitar Ensemble Pages: 2
Description: This is a friendly little guitar ensemble piece for first year students. Enjoy.
Description: On the Bridge at Avignon is a traditional French Folk Song. We talk about syncopation being the "Salsa" or seasoning that helps to make music interesting. This rhythm (Dotted Quarter, to the eighth note followed by two quarter notes) is what we call the "Boom Ya Got It" rhythm. We try to come up with memorable phrases for all of the syncopated rhythms, but our favorite saying for four quarter notes is "Blah Blah Blah Blah"
Product Number: 1012004152 Series: Guitar Solo Pages: 2
Description: This is the first version of Swarm, which a couple of my students said was not "Swarmy" enough, but most of my students were very comfortable with. It is written with and without shorthand notation and I included it here simply because not everyone will be ready for Swarm II right away and they might like to start out with this version first. Another of my students pointed out that this is very much in the tradition of the finest video games, so I don't feel so bad about it. When you have mastered Swarm I, be prepared for Swarm II, at a Sheet Music Digital website near you! Bwah Ha Ha!!!
Product Number: 1012004153 Series: Guitar Solo Pages: 2
Description: This is the sequel to Swarm I. The only real difference is the addition of lots and lots of eighth notes, making it an excellent "m-i" study, as well as a much "Swarmier" piece of music. If you are an advanced player, you might even want to try Swarm II first! IF you are not sure, go ahead and download Swarm I, play around with it, enjoy it's "kinder, gentler Swarmyness," and when you can play it and still pay attention to the commercials at the same time, move on to Swarm II, the sequel! For those of you who insist on jumping in where angels fear to tread, the shorthand notation is included here as well. I argued with myself for a few minutes, but eventually concluded that it would only take me a few minutes to put it out and if even one person needs it, it might just be worth it.
